After a busy weekend of perfecting my mad acrobatic cycling skills , indulging in fried foods and pelting some guy with tomatoes (I throw like a girl) there's nothing I like better than a bit of flirtation with advanced maturity - getting in touch with the geriatric, so to speak.  No, I've not taken to cruising the RSA looking for a pensioner with a sparkle in his eye and ready access to low-price beer, I've just been getting a little bit "nana" on it.

It's not that cold but there's something very comforting about a blanket over the knees, isn't there?  I think it's a very normal thing to crave.  Knees are so bony that it's totally natural that you'd want to cocoon them in something crocheted or made of polar fleece at every opportunity.  I'm pretty sure that nine out of 10 rock stars would agree with me.

And of course there's the nana-nap.  I have usually found the midday nap, however tired I might be, to be very elusive.  We're not really supposed to sleep in the daytime.  If we were it wouldn't be so gosh-darned bright, but yesterday I did succeed in catching a little mid-afternoon slumber and I must concede that I think the grandmothers of the world are on to something here.  A nana nap is a lovely thing, even taking into account the possibility of unfortunate amounts of saliva attempting to make a break for freedom to the unknown and exciting environment of a couch cushion.

Unfortunately my sofa-based slumber had a somewhat surprising effect.  Upon waking up in a stereotypical cinematic fashion (phone going off, sitting bold upright, hair askew, corner of mouth damp, all this accompanied by a sharp, snortish intake of breath and a facial expression which I'm sure looked conveyed "Whaaaaa?"),  on trying to get up I found that my balance was completely askew requiring various course corrections to be made on the fly.  I stumbled about the living room wondering what the heck was wrong with me, my steering abilities similar to those I display when playing Sega Rally (i.e. veering from one side of the road to the other, over-correcting like a pedantic schoolmarm with a red ink fetish).

Eventually I came right and briefly wondered if I might have some kind of tumour (hypochondria being a minor hobby that I pick up from time to time) that affected balance before figuring that the sideways posture of my nap might have thrown off my middle ear balancey things.

I'm thinking that I should incorporate a little bit of "nana" into every weekend.  I'm thinking
